SCHOOL MEALS

This year, HUSD will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision. Juniper will be participate in this amazing program, which will provide a healthy breakfast and lunch at school each day, for every enrolled student in grades 1-6. Please be sure to complete the yearly income survey that will be sent home in September, as this information will help ensure that this program continues at our school. Survey information is confidential and will not be shared outside of our Nutrition Services Department. Additionally, our district has adopted a Wellness Policy to benefit the health of our students. We ask that you abide by this policy by only supplying students with healthy snacks.

If you are bringing snacks to share with others in the classroom (for class parties, etc.), these snacks may not be homemade. For the safety of our kids, snacks provided to classrooms must be store-bought and in sealed containers. Healthy snacks are always best (bags of crackers, pretzels, etc.). Some alternatives to bringing sweet treats are bookmarks, stickers, or pencils.Students may bring a snack to eat before or after recess/PE. Please avoid messy snacks such as Top Ramen and Cheetos. To reduce the possibility of choking, students are not to take anything onto the playground to eat. Only water is allowed in the classrooms and glass bottles or jars are not permitted on campus at any time. Please help to nourish your child academically by sending him/her to school with foods that feed their minds. Sugary snacks and foods with little or no nutritional value will hinder their learning. As a reminder, students are not to have gum on campus.
